On this day in 1431, Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. Today, the anniversary of her martyrdom, is now celebrated as her Feast Day by the same Church that helped put her to death.
The story of Joan’s trial and execution is a complex one, but it is a story that needs to be told. My play Dark Night of the Soul dramatizes these events. It has been performed for radio on WMNF in Tampa, Florida, and more recently had a staged reading by Nittany Theatre at the Barn in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania.
While I cannot announce a full production as of yet, I hope that the play will be fully staged in the near future. In the meantime, G.B. Shaw’s play about Joan of Arc, Saint Joan, is currently enjoying a revival on Broadway. See it if you get a chance!
